Transform.Ed Briefing #53
Inside the Briefing: From utilizing the power of visualization to establishing social-emotional learning as foundational literacy - helping students believe in themselves!
From completing mundane daily chores to achieving exceptional professional growth, self-efficacy is a potent tool for success. It has long been linked to students’ motivation and learning and could help them develop better social behaviors and become more self-accountable.
An important avenue for cultivating self-efficacy lies in imaginal experiences, utilizing the power of visualization. As proposed in Albert Bandura's self-efficacy theory, past performance outcomes, vicarious experiences, social persuasion, and emotional state are pivotal factors shaping one's belief in their ability to execute plans effectively.
Last week, we asked our readers the best ways to foster self-efficacy in students. 50% of the respondents believed in promoting autonomy, while the other half emphasized encouraging reflections. Other strategies to build self-efficacy would include offering constructive feedback, modeling peer behavior, and promoting the emotional, physical, and psychological well-being of a student.
In our efforts to help students instill belief in their own abilities, what major challenges may we face as educators trying to implement these strategies in our classrooms, and what steps can we take to address these challenges?
