Transform.Ed Briefing #52
Inside the Briefing: Education leapfrogging, inclusive innovation and the Socratic method - shaping the futures of education
Trapped in an era of polycrisis, the Agenda 2030 may soon become an epitaph for the world. At the current pace with no additional intervention, 84 million children and young people will be out of school, and about 300 million students will lack essential literacy and numeracy skills by 2030.
To reverse this trend, one possible solution could be education leapfrogging - which involves making transformative shifts by harnessing the power of innovation. This concept puts pedagogy at the heart of teaching and learning and identifies six clusters of innovative pedagogical approaches - blended learning, computational thinking, experiential learning, embodied learning, multi-literacies, and gamification to transform teaching and learning.
However, the implementation of such innovations is not without its set of challenges and obstacles. In our last poll, where we asked about some of these critical obstacles, responses were evenly split between resistance to change and policy and institutional challenges.
As we navigate these obstacles, a question comes to the fore: How can innovation be realized in diverse educational settings, including both high and low-tech situations? Given the current digital divide, is it even possible to achieve this, or is it a false dichotomy?
