Policy Brief » Addressing the Global Teacher Shortage and Supporting Teacher Well-Being
By UNESCO
As education systems worldwide strive to provide quality learning, a growing teacher shortage is one of the most pressing challenges. The United Nations has reported that an additional 69 million teachers are needed to meet global education goals by 2030. To tackle this, governments must enact policies that not only attract new teachers but also ensure their retention through improved working conditions, competitive salaries, and ongoing professional development. Additionally, addressing teacher well-being is crucial. Studies indicate that many teachers face high levels of stress and burnout, making mental health support and manageable workloads vital in maintaining a thriving education workforce.
