Transform.Ed Briefing #34
Inside the Briefing: From the significance of disability-inclusive data to the tale of a teacher with an indomitable spirit - exploring the power of inclusion with an emphasis on special education.
“Every student can learn, just not on the same day or in the same way.”
- George Evans
In response to our poll last week, asking about the most effective interventions for learners with special needs, 50% of respondents believed in the importance of parent and caregiver collaboration, while 33% supported the effectiveness of Universal Design for Learning. The remaining 17% voted for Individualized Education Plans.
Unlocking the transformative potential of education requires us to explore innovative approaches and insights that can shape inclusive pedagogy and practice towards creating intentional, inclusive, and impactful learning experiences. UNESCO IIEP and UNICEF’s On the road to inclusion report (2019) puts forth crucial recommendations for addressing challenges related to special education. The report emphasizes the significance of improving teacher training to better support diverse learners. Additionally, it stresses the importance of increased collaboration among governments, educators, families, and communities to promote an inclusive educational environment.
What are the essential steps, actions, and considerations to genuinely nurture an inclusive classroom setting? With that in mind, could you share some of your preferred strategies that you rely on to foster an inclusive learning environment for children with special educational needs? The question then arises: how can we actively promote and implement inclusive education practices in our communities to ensure that learners with special needs have access to quality education?
