By LFJ - Learning for Justice
The Social Justice Standards provide a framework for anti-bias education at every stage of K-12 instruction. These standards are divided into four domains: identity, diversity, justice, and action (IDJA) and aim to guide curriculum development to make schools more just and equitable. They emphasize the need for students to develop knowledge and skills related to both prejudice reduction and collective action.

Film » Mr. Smith Goes to Washington
This classic film directed by Frank Capra is a staple in civics education. It tells the story of a naive man appointed to fill a vacancy in the U.S. Senate, who then fights against corruption and political machines. The film is an excellent tool for discussing the ideals of democracy, the role of government, and the importance of civic engagement. It's particularly useful for illustrating the legislative process and the impact of individual actions on the political system.
Documentary » Freedom writers
Based on Raymond Arsenault’s book, this documentary film explores the struggle for racial justice through the lens of the Freedom Riders. It is an excellent resource for teaching about civil rights and social activism.
